Comparing The Yellow Wallpaper with Hop Frog Essay Example for Free

Comparing The yellow-bellied cover with skip over toad EssayThe Yellow wallpaper and hop toad frog were both(prenominal)(prenominal) written at a time of social turbulence and revolution. Poe wrote Hop toad twelve years prior to the Ameri evict civil war, so it is fitting that many of the ideas in the story carry a strong anti-sla precise message. Similarly, The Yellow paper was written in 1892 just before the climax of equal-rights for women. Gillmans The Yellow wallpaper is one of the early feminist texts in which her writing criticises the position that women were oppressed into and the ignorance of society as a whole. Both Gillman and Poe attack fiercely these ideas that were both upheld and leave aloneingly readed by the majority of society. These two settings without delay portray the two central typefaces, a char and a slave, as two of an inaudible minority, who were undetermineded to an unjust, patriarchal world. One of the main similarities between Hop toad and The Yellow Wallpaper is the atmosphere of each of the stories. Both argon horror stories ar real dark, and have a horror genre, however Hop Frog is also similar to a fairy tale in that it is quite unbelievable, and where Hop Frogs environs are fantasy, the fibbers surroundings are quite real. Despite their differences, both of the storys surroundings and atmosphere are emblematic of the way the central character is feeling or universe treated. For example, gluttony and corruption of the top executive and his ministers surround Hop Frog and Poes darkly vivid descriptions of these reflect the mood of Hop-Frog.The oily ministers and a corpulent baron sound simply grotesque and fill the reader with a sort of stomach churning unease and tension at the treatment of Hop Frog. The depravity and gluttony is hugely significant as it shows us the danger and easiness of fit influenced and eventually corrupted by greed and alcohol. The storyteller of The Yellow Wallpaper has kind of a room. It is describes as having barred widows and a nailed d give fare, which give the impression of a prison rather than a place to become easily again in. In detail the room actually does become a prison for the narrator, becoming more(prenominal) and more horrible as the story progresses.By the repetitive use of the word, joke in the first paragraph Poe emphasises the discomfort of Hop Frog as well up as achieving a hugely tense up atmosphere. This makes the reader, who realises that this seemingly jovial and harmless behaviour of the king and his courtiers is in occurrence, a lot more damaging and sinister, feel the tension and discomfort that Hop Frog endures. same Hop Frog, The Yellow Wallpaper also has a tense atmosphere achieved by the speeded up pace of the story and the very short sentences, which dash from one idea to a nonher. These short sentences show the alertness of the narrators consciousness as well as her increasing madness as she is left with no input other than her own thoughts. As the story progresses the narrators madness grows and consequently her surroundings become more and more an extension of her own nightmarish imagination, eventually becoming as fantastical as Hop Frogs. finishedout the story, the wallpaper in the room is a illustration for the narrators illness and as her insanity grows, the wallpaper becomes more and more hideous. At the beginning of the story, it is described as horrible wallpaper. Her initial rejection of the wallpaper, shown when the narrator says I dont bid our room and asks John Let us go downstairs, is indicative of her want to concentrate better and her rejection of insanity. The wallpaper is described as having a sickly sulphur tint, representing her illness, and appears to grow, fungus and toadstools points that her illness is growing, whilst Budding and sprouting suggest the tenaciousness of this growth. Despite the incident that the images of the wallpaper worsen as time goe s on, the narrator quickly becomes obsessed by it, spending hours studying it.The narrator describes how It dwells on my mind so. Eventually, the narrator becomes so mad, that it is as if she is schizophrenic. She begins to see herself in the wallpaper as a woman, stooping down and creeping behind the pattern. As time progresses, the pass out woman becomes clearer and stronger as the narrator becomes weaker. This shows her sane self, losing the battle to her insane self. Despite the awful surroundings, outside of her barred windows lies the garden. In contrast to the wallpaper, the garden represents the narrators hope of freedom. The garden is described as delicious and where everything in the wallpaper is bad and infectious, everything in the garden is good and healing. However the narrator is locked away with her illness and is unable to mountain range the garden, which holds the key to her freedom, How I hankering he John would let me go she tells us. This creates dramatic ir ony, as everyone knows what the narrator needs, including the narrator herself, except the narrators own husband John.Just as the wallpaper and the narrators madness increase as the story progresses, the behavior of the king towards Hop Frog worsens. This is shown by Poes descriptions of the king, starting as our king, turning into a tyrant and becoming finally a monster. By describing the king in this way, the reader is not only made to feel sympathy for Hop Frog by portraying him as a powerless victim of this cruel abuse, entirely also make us forgive his final act of revenge, which is in fact utterly terrible. The King and his ministers are abusive and exploitative towards Hop Frog and Trippetta. Poe illustrates this particularly by the reference to alcohol, The king purposes advantage of Hop Frogs intolerance to wine-coloured it excited the poor cripple almost to madness and sadistically he took pleasure in forcing the cripple to drink. Poe describes how Hop Frog was forced to be merry as it was the poor dwarfs birthday and he is made to obey the command to drink to absent friends, which forced tears to his eyes. This is incredibly ironic, as Hop Frog is not with his friend because he is a slave in the court of the king.In the yellow wallpaper, the narrators monster is her own husband, John, a physician. He ignorantly suffocates his wife, leaving her with no option but to escape into her own madness. He threatens her with Weir Mitchell who was renowned for treating women with this temporary nervousness. The narrator describes how he is like john and my brother, only more so, showing her wish not to be sent to him. John also keeps the narrator away from human contact, starving her of any stimulation or interaction. Despite his obvious fare for her he treats her like a possession, this is shown when he fails to regard her as a human being by addressing her as she as if she isnt even there. This also symbolises the fact that he has slowly removed her iden tity. John regards his wife with little more intelligence than a child, shown by his constantly patronising tone. He calls her little jack and little girl as well as remarking bless her as if she is little older than five. John also shows himself to be really rather egoistical when he implores her get well for me. Despite everything, we have to believe that John really does love his wife and wants to help her. But it is through John that Gillman makes a very poignant observation of the way in which society treats women, pointing out the real danger of ignorance. The Narrator in The Yellow wallpaper is portrayed as an extremely bright creative woman, despite the way John regards her. She expresses her thoughts and releases some of the energy that she is so full of through writing. However John forbids that she should write, the narrator tells us I am absolutely forbidden to work. The narrator herself tells us herself that excitement and change would do me good. Instead of excitement and change the narrator is confined to her bed and made to sleep most of the day I lie down ever so much now, John retrieves its good for me.However, it is not good for her and the narrator describes how I dont sleep much at night, showing the disturbance of her mind. This results in the narrator having an enormous amount of pent up energy which, when combined with her unfitness to express herself creates enormous tension in the story. As the narrator searches frantically for an outlet for her imagination she inevitably becomes mad seeking the much-needed stimulation within the wallpaper. The narrators unfitness to express herself can be compared with Hop Frogs loss of control to the king when he is forced to drink. Hop Frog is described as being control to madness by the wine, and madness Poe reminds us is no comfortable feeling. In both stories the position of women is severely criticized. In Hop Frog, Trippettas position as both a slave and a woman is exploited. Her grace and e xquisite beauty is described as being universally admired. Poe describes how she was admired and petted suggesting the shocking abuse she is subject to. Poe describes how the king threw the entire contents of the goblet in her face, suggesting the complete humiliation that she suffered. In The Yellow Wallpaper, we are introduced to Jennie who is the sister of John. She is described as a undefiled and enthusiastic housekeeper. Typically of a nineteenth century Lady, Jennie is subservient accepting her position willingly and gratefully. Gillman describes how she hopes for no better profession. Jennie represents the women of society who have grown to accept and are either to weak or to scared to climb against a life that is no better than that of a slaves. The narrators position as a woman is very similar to Hop Frogs. She is treated as a possession by her husband John and is seen to have no real opinions or views. She describes how the heads that she sees are strangled by the wallpap er, turns them up side down and turns their eyes white. This is very much inactive of the way both she and the other women of society feel suffocated and oppressed by their position. Both stories are written in first person narrative, which makes them a lot more personal. Hop Frog is told by an anonymous Narrator, an onlooker, whilst The Yellow Wallpaper is written like a diary with the narrator, a woman suffering from post-natal depression being the central character. Semi-Autobiographical, the story is loosely based on Perkins own experiences. The narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper remains nameless meaning that the narrator could be any woman in society. It is also a metaphor for the identity that has been lost through her illness and the ignorance of her husband, John. Both the characters are the victims of ignorance. The Yellow Wallpaper shows the ignorance of society about post-natal depression and the fact that no one is vigilant to accept what the narrator is suffering from. Her case is not serious we are told. The result of this ignorance is that the narrators condition is not cured but instead made worse. She is interpreted for a rest cure and deprived of interaction with people and stimulation. Her creativity is crushed when she is forbidden to write. This inability to express herself, had dire consequences instead of recovering she instead she begins to descend further and further into her own madness. The wallpaper in her room, which gradually becomes more and more disturbing as her madness increases, shows this. This can be compared to Hop Frog who because of his difference in appearance is treated appallingly. The central characters of each story are portrayed as prisoners the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper is portrayed as a prisoner, trapped by her social position as a woman, by her mental illness and by her own husband. Through her story, Gillman attacks an extremely patriarchal society. She criticises the lack of respect for women and shows her anger towards the inability of women to escape from the position they are oppressed to. The room in which the narrator is put in, in order to rest and recover from her illness is very much symbolic of her imprisonment. It is described as having barred windows and the bedstead as iron, heavy and nailed to the ground representing her being tied down. The fact that the room was a nursery first, is very ironic Firstly because she has no contact with her own baby and secondly because she has literally been minify to the position of a child.Similarly, Hop Frog and his fiend Trippetta are salves, whom Poe tells us, were forcibly carried off from their barbarous region and sent, as presents to the king. This is reminiscent of the situation of many morose slaves who were taken from Africa to the west at this time, in order to further the endeavours of rich, greedy men at as low a cost a possible. The man of what faced them ahead was a harsh, cruel life of constant work with no freedom or rights as a human being. However, it is surely pervert that one person should have freedom whilst another is an enslaved possession because they are different. This injustice is shown in the story by the Kings inability to accept Hop Frog as a person, in appearance he is different and so is treated as an object, a possession. Poe describes him as a monkey and a squirrel and suggest that Hop Frog is begging for food crumbs from the royal table. The result this is that Hop Frog is shown to be like a begging animal which serves to ease the Kings scruples at mocking Hop Frog, if he is not a person then he does not have feelings. Both Hop Frog and Trippetta are dwarfed and Hop Frog is a cripple and Walks with an interjectional gait, which comes across as quite funny when it is further described as somewhere between a bounce and a wriggle. Despite this Hop Frogs value was trebled in the eyes of the king and the king, who live only for joking exploits Hop Frogs physical disabilities. I t is therefor ironic that Hop Frog becomes the court fool which is a metaphor for the fact that he is laughed at by the King. The idea of Hop Frog being mocked for the way he walks is shocking and through this Poe shows the unease of society at the treatment of the slaves. The Kings immoral behaviour mirrors that of the slave traders in America and Europe. Hop Frogs physical disability can be compared to the narrators madness. The endings of each story are hugely significant and it is perhaps through the ending that we see the characters in their true light. Throughout The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator has drifted in and out of her sane mind, she tells us once I always lock the door before I creep. Up until this point the narrator has not accepted that it is herself who is creeping, instead putting it down to the woman. But by the end, she is telling us how she is creeping round and round and round the room. Both a rope and an axe are mentioned, and John faints when he sees the destr uction of the room and of his wife. It is quite possible that either of them are dead, however Gillman leaves the ending ambiguous. As well as amplifying the uncertainty of the woman, this could also be down to the fact that Gillman, despite her feminist views, was still a woman in the nineteenth century. She did she want to demonise her character by making her murder her husband no could she afford to openly state that the husband was literally overpowered by his wife. Gillman would not want to broken in her feminist audience either, who would be outraged if the narrator killed herself due to the fact that she is such a powerful symbol of a woman wanting to rebel against her oppression. For her to commit suicide would dishearten a lot of these women as it would look as if suicide was the only way out. It seems as if this ending was right for the character who despite becoming insane, is finally happy and tells us with utter satisfaction I got out. Whatever the reason for this endin g, there is no doubt that despite the fact that this ending is truly repulsive it also comes with a degree of relief. For with the narrators madness comes freedom, and more importantly, the woman finds her identity. Ironically this is not her figure outer self, who is finally named as Jane, but another person her insanity.Whilst The Yellow Wallpaper remains ambiguous, the ending of Hop frog is completely literal. Because eof the fact that Poe is a man, he can afford to take more liberties that perhaps Gillman was unable to take. He can openly humiliate and torture the king and the court, who represent the corrupt monarchy an important part of society, and appear to get away with this. Hop Frog is portrayed as demonic and evil. He achieves his freedom by brutally killing the King and his ministers. Under the guise of the ill-advised fool he tricks the king and his ministers into thinking that they are dressing up and covers them in tar and flax. The fact that Poe uses tar and Flax is of great significance as it is symbolic of humiliation and punishment throughout history. Hop Frog then chained them together to become the eight chained orangutans. Hop frog shows himself to be very intelligent when, at the dwarfs suggestion, the keys had been deposited with him, in contrast with the stupidity of the King. Poe describes how the they are humiliated when the chains cause them to fall and stumble, The King and his Ministers have gone form mocking Hop Frog to being mocked themselves Hop Frog then suspends them from the ceiling at the ball and burns them alive. The fact that throughout the story Hop Frog never had the presence that the evil King had means that we would not immediately suspect Hop frog. When the grating noise was first introduced, the reader did not think that it could be Hop Frog. However at the end when Hop Frog is perched on the rope with the burning king and ministers below him the grating noise came form the fang like teeth of the dwarf, who grou nd and gnashed them as he foamed at the mouth. This is an insane a picture as that of the narrator. Hop frog rising up against the king is a complete reversal of roles, the oppressed has become the oppressor. However how is it possible that Poe can get away with this ending without his central character looking like the vengeful murder that he has become? It is perhaps because all-thorough the story, the treatment of Hop Frog as well as his situation has been described as Horrendous, horrific and brutal, evoking incredible sympathy in the reader. As if this isnt reason enough, Poe threw in the added ploy of alcohol, which appears to demonize Hop Frog. Therefor when Hop Frog commits this terrible act, he is immediately forgiven whilst we all revel in the torture that the king and his ministers now incur. In the eyes of the reader justice has been done. Perhaps through his ending, Poe is forecasting what is to come, when the black slaves will rise up against their own white oppressors. It is therefor interesting that n order to truly punish and humiliate them, Hop Frog turns them first black. Like Gillman, Poe does not want to demonize the female character, leaving the question of Trippettas involvement up to the reader to answer.

Tudor goverments EssayWhat caused Tudor poverty and what did Tudor goverments do to reduce the number of the execrableIn Tudor England at the time of Edward V1 there was a huge diffrerence between the lives of scummy people and the rich. There were m any reasons for this. The lords were changing from growing chaff to farming sheep. Needing fewer men for work. Henry V111 had closed down all the monestries and the monks had no jobs. Also the poor people who relied the monks to feed them couldnt get food from the monestries any more. A lot of the lords had had private armies. Child Development Theories and Practice

Child Development Theories and PracticeThe Scottish Government (2010) has issued national guidelines for adults working with infantren from pre birth to three years informing them of the cardinal key principles which promote positive outcomes for young children and families. Nine features have been identified to put the key principles into practice. The four key principles are rights of the child, descents, responsive care and respect. research has shown that birth to three years is a critical age for offset and spirit development. The Scottish Government (2010 pg 15) note that Forming and reinforcing connections are the key tasks of early brain development. It is the early experiences and developing relationships that cause the connections in the brain to increase rapidly. It is essential that staff form warm and respective relationships with young children. Quality interaction with adults at this age is main(prenominal) in frame for the child to develop cognitively.Attachmen t is seen as one of the features of the key principles. It is the process through and through which young children form tightly fitting relationships with a few well known people ie parents or grandparents. Bowlby the theorist at the forefront of this theory maintained these relationships act as a lasting template for shaping the childs ability to tiller and keep successful relationships with family and friends. It is ideal these early experiences with the first people who looked after us may take shape our long term emotional wellbeing (Birch 2007). Mary Ainsworth (1969) built on Bowlbys work. She maintained that caregivers should be sensitively responsive, be aware of the young baby or childs signals and be able to interpret them accurately and respond appropriately and promptly. Through my notices it was apparent that the child had a strong attachment to both his parents, see appendix 1, observation 1. During my project I was open and approachable with both parents, finding out about the childs temperament, routines, likes and dislikes, making both parents and child feel comfortable in my company. According to Learning and Teaching Scotland (2010 pg 24) one of the most effective ways of demonstrating respect for children and families is where staff express a genuine interest in them. I have been able to witness the benefits of working with a family in a home environment and feel that home visits should be arranged in order that a relationship can be built up with parents, children and practitioners before younger children attend an early years background. This should raise the transition from home to the saddle horse run smoothly, enabling the child to feel safe and secure in a new environment. According to Dryden et al (pg 81) Having a secure attachment to their radical carers and to a key worker in a nursery setting appears to impact on a childs ability to cope with major life changes. This emphasises the enormousness of stable and sensitive ca re for very young children in an early years setting. Goldschmeid was influenced by Bowlbys work and introduced the keyworker concept (The Early Years Foundation wooden leg 2007). This approach sees an adult being responsible for the care of a small group of children, getting to know their routines well and tuning into their needs. Ratios of staff to children could be a challenge of the system. It is not evermore possible for the same person to attend to the needs of younger children. Also rotas and turnover of staff may mean that early(a) colleagues in addition to a childs keyworker pull up stakes be required to know childrens routines and preferences. There are various models that can be used to track the growth and development of children in the early years. The medical and checklist models can result in a deficit view of the child, focusing on what the child cannot do. Learning should always start with what the child can do. The conventional method of studying child developme nt has been to use the Normative Development model. Mary Sheridan carried out research in the 1950s. This work was used to develop a framework for child development. This uses the milestones approach and suggests that children should be able to achieve certain things at a certain age. Although there are recognized sequences of child development it is thought that as children develop at different rates it is more appropriate to look at a childs development holistically (Dryden et al 2007). The EYFS (2007) has divided tuition and development into the following six areas Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, speech and Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Knowledge and understanding of the World, carnal Development and Creative Development (Department for Children, Schools and Families 2008)Observations and assessments should be completed in order that childrens development can be tracked and progression can be seen. It is important that there is a good record keeping system in place. Experiences offered during this project were not based on learning outcomes as this type of class is not suitable for a child of this age. It is not appropriate to plan weeks in advance. By observing the child, together with information gained from parents I was able to go on to plan experiences based on his individual needs, see appendix 1, observation 3, I promoted play and supported and extended the childs learning where appropriate. I will take this into account when working in an early years setting, building childrens learning approximately their daily experiences and encouraging them to interact with others in the setting. Lev Vygotsky was a lead theorist of cognitive development whose thoughts are very current. He is seen as the founder of the loving constructivist approach who believed that through affable interactions with adults, children learn cultural tools and social skills. He felt that culture and community were essential el ements of childrens cognitive development (Linden 2005). Children learn to think and put into practice their thoughts as a result of social interaction. Dryden et al (2005 pg82) notes the most important element of a high quality play and learning environment for babies and children up to three is the adult. I realize that I must provide an environment rich with child initiated learning to enable children to develop their language and cognitive skills and recognize that I will have to make reflection a part of my work routine. This will allow me to look at the opportunities of play that are provided and ensure children are being given the tools to make choices and decisions regarding their play and learning.Throughout my project I demonstrated to the child that I was interested in his learning by interacting with him and responding flexibly, tuning into his interests, enabling me to plan responsively for his learning. During observation 3, see appendix 1, the child was wrapping himse lf in curtains and on further discussions with his mother I learned that he liked to hide in the understairs press and under tables and chairs. On reflection I thought this could be an envelopment/containment schema. Chris Athey (2003) identified schemas as a pattern of repeated actions. Children exhibit schemas when they are compete and trying to find out more about the world. Practitioners can use schema theory to interpret childrens actions and go on to support and extend childrens learning by providing appropriate resources. It may be difficult to explain schema theory to parents and I believe it may be athletic supporterful to use a video camera as a means of observation which may help the parents better understand their childrens learning. Observation of childrens learning from both the home and setting can be shared and their learning taken forward from there. Working in partnership with parents is one of the features of the key principles in practice (Scottish Government 2010)Language acquisition is one of the key milestones in early childhood development. BF Skinner the theorist associated with Behaviourist Theory thought that children imitate the language of their parent or carers. The behaviourists believe that children learn through positive and negative reinforcement, using praise when a childs spoken word is recognized and ignoring unsuccessful attempts at speaking. This line of thought was challenged by Jerome Bruner a Social Interactional Theorist who believed that language development is both biological and social and that language is influenced by the desire of children to communicate with others. Bruner believed that through using a Language Acquisition Support System, various approaches can be used such as pointing out and naming objects and responding to childrens utterances all help children to acquire the language skills required for cognitive and social development. Bruner called this scaffolding the childs language acquisition (Birc h 1997). I put this into practice during observation 2, appendix 1, talking to the child throughout, naming objects and responding to his gestures. The child seems to have good understanding of words but has a fairly limited vocabulary but this should increase rapidly around this age. After taking into consideration government initiatives and guidance, various theories of child development and my observations of a young child it has become apparent to me the importance of establishing a relationship between keyworkers, children and parents which is both respectful, responsive and nurturing. Research regarding the rapid development of babies brain development means practitioners must be aware of the impact of their practice on very young childrens social and cognitive developments. I realise the importance of continuing professional development in order to keep up to understand with government legislation and any advances in child development which will help me make informed decision s regarding my practice. I believe it is important to put in place policies and procedures in early years settings that will facilitate the reflection on practice with practitioners, colleagues and parents.

Recent studies have produced mixed and sometimes puzzling results regarding the impact of IMF programs on a nations balance of payments, current account balance, foreign direct investment, real GDP, per capita income and long-run economic growth.Martin Feldstein (1998) argues that the IMF required excessively larg e reductions in government deficits and restrictions on monetary policy. These restrictions resulted in substantial increases in tax rates, lodge in rates and increase in current account deficit. Feldstein argues that Asian economies have experienced a recession that worsened their economic problems as a result of these policy changes. Feldstein argues that many of the mandated reforms involve unjustified interference with national autonomy and have little or no relationship to the goal of resolving the payment problem. He notes that it would have been better to allow more time for negotiations between borrowers and lenders before providing IMF loans to a country experiencing payment problems.Ho in that location is no hearty Impact on the current account deficit by increase presidency economic consumption through IMF Funding.H5 There is probatory Impact on the current account deficit by change magnitude governing body Expenditure through IMF Funding.Doug Bandow (1999) argues that the existence of IMF bailouts creates a object lesson hazard problem that encourages countries to not solve their sound problems. Bandow argues that IMF assistance programs increase risk for healthy economies and do not provide long-term benefits for troubled economies. He notes that most IMF borrowers have received aid for a decade or more.Jensen (2004) suggests that international capital markets perceive IMF intervention as a negative development. Regardless of factors driving their decisions, Jensens research provides strong evidence that developing countries pay a serious price when they take advantage of IMF assistance. His research strongly reveals a negative relationship between IMF funding and foreign direct investment in the country. According to him investors dont perceive this funding in a positive way that why reducing net investmen t train in the country and as a result hindering economic growth. For impact of IMF on FDI following supposition is developedHo There is no evidential Impact on the FDI by increasing governing Expenditure through IMF Funding.H1 There is significant Impact on the FDI by increasing politics Expenditure through IMF Funding. On the other hand there are a number of researchers like Dicks Mireaux (2000), who have found strongly positive economic growth effects of IMF funding. These researches found that there is appositive impact of IMF funding on the economy. While there are also studies which concluded that are no significant effects of IMF on the economy of a country under IMF agreement like, Hardoy(2003) and Hutchison (2004), who argue that IMF funding does not pour any significant impact on the economy of the borrower country. Mireaux argue that economy grows due to the increased tax revenues. succeeding(a) hypothesis has been developed between tax revenue and IMF funding.Ho The re is no significant Impact on the Tax Revenue by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding.H3 There is significant Impact on the Tax Revenue by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding.Nunnenkamp(1999) in his article discussed that IMF is under serious attack as critics blame that IMF bestow lead to financial crisis and suggests to stop IMF funding also the researcher discussed the consequences of ending the lending ODriscoll (1997) in his article has conducted the descriptive research about the IMF policies towards developing countries by keeping the focus on USA economy. The Policy making of IMF for the developing countries are without any backing of historical decisions taken by the developing countries in past. Thus the financial crises and current account deficit crises is mainly attributed to such policy making. The researcher has give example of Asia in which case the above discussion is particularly true which roots in 1995. The IMFs handling of th e Mexico crisis firmly established moral hazard in international lending and sowed the seeds for the Asian crisis. Thus far, IMF policy in Asia largely repeats the policy mistakes in Mexico.Gina (2007) indicates in his article that the reforms enacted by coition in USA are an important counterbalance step toward reforming the IMF. Even more important than the reforms, however, was the congressional debate over IMF funding. That debate focused direction on the process and Substance of IMF policymaking and even questioned the need for that organization in the post-Bretton Woods world.Przeworski and Vreeland (2000) Using a bivariate, dynamic version of the Heckman selection model, we figure the effect of participation in International Monetary Fund IMF programs on economic growth. We find evidence that governments enter into agreements with the IMF under the pressures of a foreign reserves crisis but they also bring in the Fund to shield themselves from the political costs of adjus tment policies. Program participation lowers growth rates for as long as countries remain under a program. Once countries leave the program, they grow faster than if they had remained, but not faster than they would have without participation. So for the relation between IMF and GDP following hypothesis are developedHo There is no significant Impact on the GDP by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding.H1 There is significant Impact on the GDP by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding. The work outs of Barroa Lee (2005) shows that a higher IMF loan-participation rate reduces economic growth. IMF lending does not have significant effects on investment, inflation, employment, government consumption, and international openness. However, IMF loan participation has small negative effects on democracy and the rule of law.Ho There is no significant Impact on the Employment by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding.H2 There is significant Impact on the Employment by increasing Government Expenditure through IMF Funding.Chapter 3Research MethodologyThis chapter includes the theoretical model, data assembling technique and methodology approach used for the analysisTheoretical modelEconomicGrowthReal GDPIMF FundingEmploymentFDI RRevenueCurrent grade BalanceData collectionSecondary source for the data collection has been used in this research. Training Scenario In Indian Industry Management Essay

information Scenario In Indian Industry guidance EssayTrainingis an educational process. People can learn brisk information, re-learn and reinforce existing knowledge and skills, and most importantly have time to think and consider what new options can help them improve their efficientness at work. Effective trainings convey relevant and useful information that inform participants and machinate skills and behaviors that can be transferred back to the workplace. The goal of training is to create an impact that lasts beyond the end time of the training itself. The focus is on creating specific action steps and commitments that focus peoples attention on incorporating their new skills and ideas back at work. Training can be offered as skill reading for individuals and groups. In general, trainings involve presentation and learning of content as a means for enhancing skill development and improving workplace behaviors.Organizational Developmentis a process that strives to build the capacity to achieve and sustain a new desired state that benefits the boldness or community and the world around them. (from the Organizational Development Network website) OD work implies creating and sustaining change. An OD perspective examines the current environment, the present state, and helps people on a team, in a department and as part of an institution identify effective strategies for improving perfor musical compositionce. In round situations, there may not be anything wrong at the present time the group or manager may simply be seeking ways to continue to develop and enhance existing relationships and performance. In other situations, there may be an identifiable issue or problem that needs to be addressed the OD process aims to find ideas and solutions that can effectively return the group to a state of mettlesome performance. These two processes, Training and Organizational Development, are often near connected. Training can be used as a proactive means for deve loping skills and expertise to prevent problems from arising and can also be an effective tool in addressing any skills or performance gaps among staff. Organizational Development can be used to create solutions to workplace issues, before they become a concern or after they become identifiable problem.http//traininganddevelopment.naukrihub.com/images/1.JPGROLE OF TRAININGTRAINING SCENARIO IN INDIAN INDUSTRYTRAINING PROGRAMS IN RETAIL/FMCG vault of heavenSome of the training programs that are given in the retail sector areSales TrainingOn-the-Job TrainingSeminars/WorkshopsCustomer Relationship ManagementOnline CourseGroup StudyComputer-Based TrainingTRAINING IN BANKING AND INSURANCE SECTORFavourable economic climate and number of other factors such as growing urbanization, increasing consumerism, increase in pecuniary services for people living in rural areas etc, has increased demand for wide range of financial products that has led to mutually beneficial growth to the banking se ctor and economic growth process. In the insurance sector also, rapid expansion has created about 5 lakh job opportunities approximately in the past five years. These openings are mainly in the field of insurance advisors or marketing agents. The eligibility criteria for this job is graduation with some experience in marketing or become insurance agents after completing school but this needs some relvant training.Earlier there were no training programs as such for insurance agents but on-the-job training however that was given once the new agent was appointed. But now the scenario has been changed, with the culmination up of big players likeICICI Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard, HDFC Life Insurance, Tata AIG General Insurance, etc in this sector, people whove had some formal training are preferred while recruitment because it can be helpful in the insurance field.TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN IT/SOFTWAREDEVELOPMENT INDUSTRYWith the growing investment by IT companies in the developmen t of their employees many companies have now started their own learning centers. As an example, Sun has its own training department. Accenture has Internet based tool by the fill a shit of My teaching that offers access to its vast learning resources to its employees. Companies are investing in both the expert training, which has always been an essential part in IT diligence, as comfortably as in managerial skills development. Companies now kept aside 3-5% of revenue for training programs. As an example, some of the major players like Tata Elexi and Accenture are allocating 7% and 3% respectively of the companys overall revenue.TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN HOSPITALITY SECTORPrograms are available for the following areasFood ProductionFood and Beverage assistanceFront OfficeHousekeepingTRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN KPO SECTORWith the expected increase in number of employees, training has become the core of KPO industry as healthful. No matter how much qualified the somebody is h e needs to be trained on processes. As the name itself implies, knowledge, this sector requires high level of functional know-how as well as domain know-how. There is a constant need of well-planned training programs as the work profile requires misgiving of market research objectives and methodologies. This sector requires behavioral training as well as training to handle stress because of odd working hours. If a person is committed to deliver quality, and is willing to learn with positive attitude then definitely KPO is the correctly place to work for him.EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING FOR AN EMPLOYEE IN AN faceCompanies invest quite a bit on the training and development of their employees. On the other hand, there are companies which refrain from investing in training. This is partly because they doubt whether such investments would pay back anything to the organization. However, today, most managers in companies appreciate the importance of training and want to invest in their emp loyees training and development.Human Resources (HR) departments in companies could play an important role in capitalizing this opportunity and put in place systems and processes to make training more effective. Here are a few actions that HR could takeLINK TRAINING TO OTHER SYSTEMSTraining is part of the development process. However, development would mean understanding the capabilities of individual employees, identifying gaps and focusing on the right training for the right person. We can see that this leads to linkage of training with recruitment and performance appraisals. Recruitment, i.e., the entry point of an employee in the company, is the best starting point for bring in capabilities of employees. Capturing the profile of an employees capabilities at this stage helps the company build on his strengths and develop them further. Similarly, performance appraisals which are a periodic exercise, give adequate opportunity for organizations to take stock of the capabilities of employees and identify the gaps or the desired capabilities that need to be developed, and which emerge either from the career aspirations of the individual or business plans of the company.MAKE TRAINING A SYSTEMATIC ACTIVITYAn employee receives a call from a Manager out of the blue one day, who asks her to attend a training program on confabulation to be held two eld later. The employee is unprepared. There are other priorities lined up for the week. Suddenly, the employee is having to do her bit to either re-prioritize, or re-schedule activities, or, worse still, stretch herself for the future(a) two days to complete some of the high priority assignments in a hurry so that she can attend the training program. All this only leads to the employee going to the training program in a totally unprepared frame of mind. A positive and receptive mood, that is necessary for learning, is absent. The time and the money dog-tired on the program turns out to be a waste. This is a common scen ario in many companies treating training programs as one off events to which employees need to be sent. HR can do a lot to take control and make training a lot more of a systematic activity. cookery for programs adequately beforehand, preparing the employee with reading material or exercises, sending alerts and other communication related to the training at different stages before the program-all these would help. In all, planning well in advance, preparing the employee, laying the foundation for an eagerness to optimise the benefit derived from the program-all these will help.TRACKING OF TRAINING ACTIVITIESMany companies have metrices such as number of man days of training. Some track them periodically, but most do not. It is necessary to compare the tracking of training to that for compensation. Compensation is tracked meticulously, analysed in depth crossways departments, levels, functions and so on. The same level of meticulousness, however, is missing in the case of trainin g. Metrices, however, need to be carefully analysed and presented to the stakeholders periodically, to help them focus their efforts and plan for the training in a systematic manner.FEEDBACK LOOPMeasuring training effectiveness has always been a challenge, given the fact that the direct correlation between the training effort and results on the job cannot be clearly established. However, no one can deny that training contributes in a very significant manner to both feeler in the knowledge, skills and performance of a companys employees, as well as the overall business performance of the company.. Such training- performance correlation has been well established, and thus, the best employers oecumenical invest significantly and systematically in training their personnel. Notwithstanding the fact that the direct correlation between a training program and improvement in the performance of an employee who has undergone such a training program, is by now indisputable, collecting feedbac k on the impact will help in fine tuning the efforts make towards training. In this context, there exist three stages of process for collecting feedback on training. Timing is very important here. The first stage is immediately after the termination of the program. The main objective of this feedback is to get to know how well the trainer delivered the program, the usefulness of the content and effectiveness of the methodology. The second stage would be the collection of feedback thirty days from the completion of the program. The objective here would be effectiveness in retention, and the question to be asked is this are the learnings from the program still retained by the employee?BLEND OF METHODOLOGIESLearning styles differ from one individual to another. To elaborate, the manner of teaching and learning different subjects can vary. What works for a training program on a technical subject may not necessarily work well for a behavioral area, and vice versa. With the leveraging of technology and proliferation of the net learning culture, learning is no longer confined to the traditional manner of training. Each of the methodologies have their respective advantages and disadvantages. A particular methodology may work well in a specific context and not so well in another. The cost would also vary from one methodology to another. It becomes the responsibility of the training personnel to consume the most appropriate methodology for the appropriate organizational context, for a particular subject and for the appropriate audience. Instead of trying to choose what works best, one may choose to provide two or three options with the same objectives, i.e., learning and improvement in the capabilities of the employees. What would help in effective implementation of all the factors mentioned in a higher placeA good and comprehensive training management system. Such a system covers all the areas mentioned above and involves all the stakeholders, employees, managers, HR/ training function and the leadership.skilful and dedicated personnel to manage the training. It is desirable to have a dedicated team to oversee the training process in a company. However, given the sizing of companies today, some small ones may not be able to dedicate full time personnel. In such cases, the responsibilities need to be clearly create into that of the HR system of these companies.

Apply Smart Sanctions and Remove Saddam Essay -- September 11 Terroris

Apply Smart Sanctions and Remove Saddam In ignition of our recent success in Afghanistan, the administration now has Iraq on the radar screen, according to National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice. Hopefully, increased attention on Iraq allow reveal that the economic sanctions aimed at bringing down Saddam Hussein hurt vital U.S. national interests and seriously undermine our legitimacy abroad-all while doing littler to achieve their original purpose. In the Nov. 28 Time Magazine article Weapons of Mass Distraction, Eric Brown condemns Saddam Hussein-not economic sanctions-for the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. While Wang acknowledges that Osama bin loaded and Saddam have used these sanctions as an excuse for Iraqi poverty and as evidence that the U.S. is the worlds greatest terrorist and sponsor of terror, Wang rejects modifying the sanctions in their current form to vitiate being influenced by such pernicious propaganda. He argues that Western policymakers sh ould instead worry about the enormous threat Saddam Hussein poses to the sovereignty and perceptual constancy of every country in the region. Regrettably, the current sanctions on Iraq have been ineffective. The starkest indication came on September 11. Strong evidence suggests Iraq supported terrorist activities related to the attacks on that disreputable day, sanctions notwithstanding. Sanctions have also been ineffective in preventing Saddams Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) programs. He has repeatedly obstructed U.N. weapons inspections with few consequences. Since the Shiite uprising at the end of the Gulf warfare in southern Iraq, on that point have been few domestic threats to Saddams power.
